What is the difference between a “Best Before” date and “Expiry” date?

An expiry dates means the last date that a product may be consumed. This generally refers to time sensitive products such as perishables, baby products and pharmaceuticals.

For shelf-stable products such as teas, manufacturer’s use a “best before date”. The best before date no longer applies if a package is opened. A best-by date denotes the optimal period of time during which the manufacturer feels that their product will retain its original quality. As noted above, the product may still be enjoyed after the “best before date”.

For TEAISM teas, while we do encourage consumption before the stated date, due to our packaging materials and processes, the product will be safe for consumption for up to one year after the date stated.
